Declare Your Freedom from Dieting!

Here’s some important news for Baby Boomers and older adults!

It’s summer and we all want to look great while enjoying our favorite pastimes.  But while you’re getting ready for your outdoor fun, there might be a little nag in the back of your mind:  you’d like to drop a few pounds, but you know that dieting hasn’t worked in the past.

Celebrate freedom from dieting this July!

Well here’s some news that will make us all feel better:  Dieting doesn’t work for anybody!

So shake that old  paradigm.  It’s July, time to make your own wellness declaration of independence!

Instead of counting calories and watching portion sizes, a new study reveals that focusing on the quality of foods produces significant weight loss.  An article published in the February 2018 edition of Journal of the American Medical Association concluded that, whether participants consumed a low-fat or low-carb diet, as long as they concentrated on healthy, minimally processed whole foods, they shed pounds over a year.

The key is to fill up on fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, while minimizing processed, high-sugar foods.  And it’s also important to cook with whole foods at home whenever possible.

So skip the coffee drink and low-fat cookies; reach instead for water and whole-grain crackers with natural peanut butter!  Not only will you lose weight, but eating a nutrient-dense food pattern while cutting back on added sugar, refined grains, and highly processed foods can also decrease your risk of chronic diseases such as diabetes and heart disease.
